Most people leave tax-free money on the table simply because eligibility rules are scattered, jargon-heavy, and hard to verify. We built Reimbursable to put a clear, searchable answer one click away — and to pair it with a free app that tracks receipts so you can reimburse yourself later, even years down the road.
How we determine eligibility
Eligibility on this site is grounded in primary IRS guidance, not crowd-sourced guesses:
- IRS Publication 502 is our baseline. Every item is reviewed against IRS Publication 502 (Medical and Dental Expenses) and related IRS guidance, which defines what counts as a qualified medical expense.
- We distinguish HSA, FSA, and HRA. Most qualified medical expenses are treated the same across accounts, but the rules aren't identical. Where it matters, each item page notes how the answer changes for an FSA or HRA.
- We flag the “it depends” cases honestly. Items like gym memberships, vitamins, or massage therapy are only eligible with a Letter of Medical Necessity. We label these clearly rather than giving a misleading yes/no.
- We date our reviews. Item pages carry an “Updated” date so you know how current the guidance is. We revisit entries as IRS rules and OTC eligibility change.
